COMPANY HISTORY:
• In the late 80’s, to be globally competitive, BHK decided to go overseas by transferring its Yokohama works boiler fabrication plant and some major manufacturing equipment of Kure Works. The Philippines was chosen as the new fabrication site because of its strategic location and the availability of engineers, technicians, skilled workers and management personnel who are proficient in the use of the English language.
• As a result, in November 1989. Babcock-Hitachi (Philippines) Inc. (BHPI) was established as a ‘Joint Venture’ company between Babcock-Hitachi K.K. (BHK) of Japan and AG & P Co. of Manila Inc. The main objective is to manufacture Utility and Industrial Boilers, Heat Recovery Steam Generators and allied Industrial products.
COMPANY PROFILE
BABCOCK–HITACHI (PHILS.) INC is located in the Municipality of Bauan, Batangas, Phils. approximately 126 kilometers south of Manila and 16 km from the provincial capital, Batangas City. It is in the area bounded by the geographical coordinates of 13.8 degrees latitude North and 121.0 degrees longitude east. The plant with a total land area of 52,246.34 square meters (Building : 18,289.84 square meters), is in the 63 hectare compound of its parent company Atlantic Gulf and Pacific Company of Manila, Inc. (AG&P –BHFY Division), which is facing the Batangas Bay. The area is within a natural cove and is protected from adverse weather conditions and strong winds by several islands, which are clearly visible from the plant. It is provided with easy access to and from the AG&P – Batangas Heavy Fabrication Yard to
the bulkhead pier, which is centrally located along the well traversed shipping routes of domestic and international trade. More importantly, the plant is accessible by road network from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Manila International Seaport. BHPI Batangas plant is situated in an industrial area and has as its neighbors the oil refineries of Shell and Caltex, Keppel Shipyard, PNOC, United Coconut Chemicals and Shell LPG Terminal.

BHPI PLANT WORKFORCE
BHPI Batangas plant maintains a work force of more than 350 highly qualified employees. These are professionals (supervisors, engineers, accountants) and skilled craftsmen (welders, panel and coil workers, machinist, NDT inspectors and technicians, instrument specialist, equipment mechanics, electricians, etc). The contribution of these highly skilled professionals and qualified specialist is vital in maintaining the quality standards set by BHPI and its customers. BHPI’s staff members are carefully screened, tested, trained, organized and administered, as such, they can match the best in the world based on productivity and quality of work. Through on-going progressive training programs at BHPI and BHK-KURE JAPAN, these specialists’ are kept current with the latest techniques and developments, applied to Boiler and allied products manufacturing.
EXCEMPTION FROM CUSTOM DUTIES & TAXESIALS
BHPI has total procurement and receiving capability for industrial material purchases. With the present policy of its mother company, BHK-KURE-Japan, BHPI has to operate as a stand-alone company. In this regard, BHPI is responsible for placing orders for most of its imported materials and equipment requirement. Sister companies all over the Asia Pacific Region help in the placing and follow-up of these orders. BHPI is registered with the Philippine Board of Investment (BOI) where it enjoys tax-exemption privileges for the importation of materials/equipment intended for its export projects. The Philippine Government has classified BHPI-Batangas as a bonded plant and warehouse allowed to store, while fabrication work is going on, customs duty-free imported materials and equipment.
