Babcock-Hitachi (Philippines) Inc. or BHPI , the country's pioneer water-tube boiler manufacturer successfully completed the rehabilitation of a boiler for a food and beverages plant. Built in 1968, this 45 t/h packaged type water-tube boiler, after 30 years of operation, encountered a big reduction in steam production due mainly to tube leaks, poor burner control system, etc.
The rehabilitation work includes: complete retubing of the generating tubes; new water wall panels; replacement of burner control to a programmable Logic Control (PLC)type; cleaning, function-testing, calibrating the components of the Existing Analog Pneumatic; and other routine maintenance work. On October 30, 2000, the final commissioning work was completed. This 1968 vintage boiler, after rehabilitation, generated 45 t/h steam equal to its original Maximum Continuous Rating (MCR). The cost of the rehabilitation is about 34% of the cost of a new 45 t/h boiler. Properly maintained, this boiler is expected to be operational for the next 10 years.
